Free Mental Health Resources

Hello! For todays blog, I’ve decided to combine a bunch of free mental health resources. Mental health is so important and vital to your overall well-being. I have used all of the following things and decided to stick with things I’ve done myself however, if you notice I’m missing something or think I should include something please let me know and I will try it out and update this blog post as I can.

Fit On is a fitness app that has so many workouts, lives, etc-kind of like beach body (from what I know of beach body) but FREE. There is also meditations. There is search filters you can use like how much time you have, what type of workout you want to do, how intense and even what kind of equipment you want to use/have on hand. There’s cardio, HIIT, tabata, kick boxing, self defence, Pilates, barre, strength, stretching, yoga and MORE. There is a “pro” option if you want access to meal plans and some other additional benefits. I have found that they share recipes a lot on Instagram and so do the trainers so I haven’t found it necessary to sign up for the “pro” option. You can take part in challenges, connect with your friends through the app and even do programs. For FREE! ๐Ÿ˜

Balance is a free meditation app that’s free for a year - can help improve sleep, stress, etc. there are different “plans” you can do like foundations and foundations II-which are just teaching you HOW to meditate. There are also specific meditations for putting you to sleep, waking you up, enjoying your coffee and so much more. Your first year is completely FREE! ๐Ÿ˜

*Insight Timer is another meditation app where you can access some free meditations without paying for the subscription*

*Smiling Mind is another meditation app that is -00% free and his courses as well*

Onlinetherapyuser.ca- is a voluntary cognitive behavioural therapy for mental health course that teaches you about your own well-being and helps you build skills to deal with life and struggles, anxiety, depression, panic attacks etc- also has a weekly check in with a licensed therapist that you can email at any time. This course is free, it’s ran out of University of Regina and all you need is to apply and have a health card. You apply online, they set up a time for a phone call to verify your online answers and you begin the course. There’s DIY guides, stories of other people and a slide show and FAQ area for each lesson. There is courses on university well-being for post secondary students and alcohol change course along with the well-being course. This online therapy is FREE! ๐Ÿ˜

For spiritual health, don’t forget about Podcasts They are free depending on where you stream them. I like Candace Cameron Bure’s Podcast and Tara Leigh Cobble’s The Bible Recap Podcast which guides me as I read through the whole Bible in a year. There are so many self help podcasts, mental health podcasts and just uplifting podcasts. Bailey Sarian’s Murder Mystery Make-Up Podcast is another favourite (true crime- not super uplifting but something that interests me & it’s important to make time for things that interest you.) I encourage you to find a podcast to listen to weekly. They are free resources. Even some therapists have podcasts. These podcasts are FREE! ๐Ÿ˜

Free meal plans- there are lots of celebrities, trainers, apps and programs for meal planning but don’t overlook the internet with free recipes, Pinterest is a favourite of mine. You can also take out recipe books from your library. YouTube has so many cooking videos if you’re wanting to try new recipes (which I recommend). It’s important to eat healthy and when you’re trying new things it keeps you motivated to keep cooking. You can see Clara’s recipes from The Great Depression Cooking-these recipes will help spark some creativity and save you a penny or two on groceries. The Internet is probably one of the best places to find meal plans for FREE! ๐Ÿ˜

Library-Your library doesn’t only carry books. (Which by the way reading is SO good for you). Libraries run programs out of them, they provide access to the internet, you can learn anything you want. And with the library connected to Libby (a FREE app), you can borrow eBooks and audiobooks for free without leaving your house or spending a cent. If you don’t have a library card, just head to the library with a piece of ID and they can sign you up for free. Libraries are one of the last places where you can just exist without being expected to pay. Also a great quiet place to study. Libraries are FREE! ๐Ÿ˜ (ps. Don’t forget about your neighbourhood’s Little free library- you don’t Need a Library Card. The motto is take a book, leave a book!)

Duolingo is a free language learning app. There is a pay option but the base plan is free. Learn whatever language you’re interested in through stories, reading, typing, listening all for FREE through Duolingo ๐Ÿ˜

Mindshift is a free thought journaling app. It helps coach you through your feelings and is designed to help cope with mild to moderate anxiety based on CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). You get immediate relief once you identify your feeling (which helps in and of itself.)

Let me know if you think of anything I should add to this that maybe I don’t know about and I’ll update it as I can.

See you next month!
