All about MONEY

Happy April! This month’s blog is all about money! Tax return season is upon us and it’s easy to blow through it but that’s obviously short lived. So I’ve put together a list of things i do to help save me money all year long. It covers bills, fees, saving, etc

1) Phone bill! I use an older version of the iPhone (which is my phone of choice) instead of the newest. Before I got it I made sure I had enough money to buy it outright (less debt is money saving 101). I also bought it second hand making it even more affordable! Since I have purchased it outright- it’s 100% mine which means I’m not paying monthly towards a debt. So I chose prepaid making my phone bill $14.99/month. I buy 600 minutes twice a year for $33.30 each. That makes my yearly phone bill $246.48 per year. The average monthly phone bill is $144. So my YEARLY phone bill is less than two months of the average  🤯

If saving money on your phone bill is something you’re interested in- I have a referral code you can use that benefits both of us- we can both get up to $50 in credits over a two month period! Making BOTH of your phone bills even cheaper!

2) Speaking of bills- my advice is to reduce the amount of bills you are paying for. For example- pay for only one type of music streaming app instead of 3. This goes even for bank fees. I bank with Tangerine because they have $0 bank fees. That’s an additional $12+ a month in my pocket (that’s over half my phone bill per year) And could be in yours, too. I have an orange key to share that benefits BOTH of us- sign up using my orange key (57950657S1) and upon completion of the terms and conditions, we each get $50! 💵 ps. Saving 10% of your income in a high interest savings account makes you even more money AND gives you an emergency fund just in case!

3) On the topic of free money-  it’s good to have a credit card to build credit but it’s easy to get stuck in the credit debt loop. So get a credit card that offers something back. For example- money back credit card from Tangerine (see above^), or a points credit card (air miles, scene, etc)  ps. The key is to not spend over 50% (try to keep it under 30%) of the credit limit and always pay it back on or before the due date to keep your credit in good standing & build it as well as keep the credit card fees as low as possible. (just in case you didn’t know)  also- use your credit card for as much as possible and pay it off right away. This gets you the most of your money back or points rewards! 💳

4) Next on the list we’ve got app subscriptions. Get rid of the ones you don’t use and condense the ones you do. This includes email subscriptions. By unsubscribing to unwanted advertising emails, you’re not tempted to buy what you don’t need. Try free subscriptions options- Is there a free option that could work ex. Instead of paying for YouTube premium, just use the free version with the ads? Also- instead of paying for Spotify AND Apple Music- choose one. Whatever subscriptions you have left- can you pay them yearly? You fork out more money at first but then you end up getting a month or two free cost wise. 🎵

5) Take advantage of points/ points cards, free promos, codes, etc. if one of your friends has a free subscription box to give away, you can always take it and cancel it before the next shipment  I’ve done this with HelloFresh & GoodFood! My advice is to cancel it right when you get your food/ product and/or put a reminder in your phone right away so it doesn’t accidentally go through and then keep cooking at home cause it’s way cheaper! 🆓

6) Sharing is caring! While we’re discussing subscriptions & friends, use each others links, try trading usernames & passwords with trusted friends and family. I know Netflix doesn’t allow it anymore but other streaming services do! This helps everyone involved by reducing subscription costs and also stretching out options! 👯‍♀️

7) Do surveys to earn extra $. I use SaskWatch. I am a survey panel member. You get points and once you hit 150 points that means $15 and you can cash out and get it etransferred or you can donate it to a charity! Using my link gets me 30 points and enters you into the new member draw where you have a chance at winning $100! 🤔

8) Use your library! Instead of purchasing a book to read once, borrow it from the library, see if you borrow it again that year and if so, then purchase it (it will probably be cheaper by then, too)  you can do this with not only books but magazines, dvds, games (board & electronic) and whatever else your library has! 📚

9) When you do decide to shop, use coupons & coupon codes if you can find them! I have a couple for you! 🛍️

- Cheeky Chic Boutique- Clothing & Accessories

use code: TAWNYS15 for 15% off

- The Happiest Presets- edit your mobile pictures to look professional

Use code TAWNYSAPP15 for 15% off

- White Rose Co- pet & pet parent accessories

10) Get away from brand names. Try using no name items & dupes instead. Also- use a bar of soap instead of new bath & body works pumps for your personal bathroom, etc. That’s just me getting cheap but you get the idea! 🧼

That’s all for now, see you in the next blog!
